This year, there were 22 seniors involved with the TORCH program. On June 5th, all of them graduated! Congratulations TORCH graduates!

¡TORCH ya tiene su propio fondo de becas! Se dan las becas anualmente a estudiantes que alcanzan los siguientes criterios:

Minoría, de bajos ingresos familiares, primera generación en asistir al colegio/universidad; o
Han participado en las actividades del programa TORCH de NHS.
Han sido acepatdo por una escuela pos-secundaria de 2 o 4 años.
Han participado y intentan continuar participando en apoyar estudiantes menores de una situación similar.

TORCH now had its own scholarship fund! Scholarships will be awarded annually to students who meet the following criteria:

Minority, low-income, or fist generation college bound; or

Have been involved in the NHS TORCH Program.

Have been accepted at a 2 yr or 4 yr post secondary program.

Have been involved and intend to continue to be involved in supporting upcoming students of a similar background.

New Staff Members

In January, TORCH hired Lisa Gaetjens to work part-time as a Postsecondary Specialist. Lisa will be working to support alumni during their college careers and helping seniors make the transition to life after high school. She will also be coordinating the Riverland PSEO program and communicating with Spanish-speaking families.

Great news! Starting in August, TORCH will have a full-time AmeriCorps VISTA worker on site! The VISTA worker will help students to enroll in college courses and find financial aid as well as working with families and local organizations to improve TORCH services. We’re very excited to welcome this new member to our team! Go here to apply to be the TORCH AmeriCorps VISTA worker.
